My Experience as an Intern

Abby Fajack | September 13, 2018

My name is Abby Fajack and I spent my summer interning with Kids Cancer Alliance as a Program Intern. Walking into KCA, I wasn’t sure what to expect. At Kids Cancer Alliance the staff really focuses on helping these children and families feel a sense of normalcy in this “out-of-the-ordinary” time in their lives. Walking in to such a heart-driven organization really inspired me to pursue a career path similar in this field.

During my internship, I did a lot of behind the scenes work for camp. I later had the opportunity to go to camp and watch the things I assisted with come to life. The best part was getting to know all of the children. Getting to see siblings feel special, children who have gone through cancer treatment feel like a kid again, and families feel safe and reassured are some of the most rewarding sights to see.

Looking back, this internship and organization helped me understand and learn so much about the nonprofit field and made me really appreciate all of the little things in my life. I can’t wait to see where my experience at KCA takes me in the future.
