How My Cancer Inspired Me To Give Back
| December 4, 2018
Meet Gavin Carr, a 14-year-old boy living in Nicholasville, Kentucky, who has undergone treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Gavin has attended KCA programs and camps since he was first diagnosed in 2009. After being inspired by organizations like Kids Cancer Alliance and his own journey overcoming cancer, he decided he wanted to give back to the children like him. One struggle that really stood out to him through his fight, was that he had a voracious appetite from treatment and the difficult procedures. “Going ten to fifteen hours without eating is hard for anyone, but it’s especially hard for a five-year-old whose life has been upended by a disease they barely understand.” Gavin decided to create his own organization which he named Gavin’s Goodies. Gavin’s Goodies, provides snacks to children undergoing treatment in the hospital. Gavin’s Goodies has partnered with Kids Cancer Alliance for many years providing left over snacks from camp to the children in the hospital.
