My name is Lucy Beauman and I am 9 years old. I was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 6th, 2017. Before my diagnosis, I was a typical third-grade girl. I enjoyed going to school, playing with my sister, and having sleepovers with my friends. Since my diagnosis, I have been in and out of the hospital for 51 nights. The hardest part is not being able to go to school and not getting to see my friends every day like I did before.

I was receiving treatment at the Kentucky Children’s Hospital DanceBlue Clinic when I first experienced Kids Cancer Alliance’s Camp-In program. I was able to make a galaxy jar and decorate a backpack with Spot! Another time at the clinic, they brought Chick-fil-a for lunch and even gave me a new toy as part of their Meals & More program. The volunteers are always a lot of fun!

We were so excited to hear about Indian Summer Camp and the Family Retreat. Luckily, my counts were good enough for my family to attend Family Retreat! This was the first time since my diagnosis that I was able to go and do anything really fun. At the retreat, I made crafts, played water sports at the lake and rode a zip line for the first time. I met a new friend and just had fun with my parents and my sister. I am so thankful for Kids Cancer Alliance. I’m counting down the days until Indian Summer Camp!
